The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that former state Senator Jeff Miller (R-Cleveland) was arrested around 2 p.m. this afternoon.

Miller was indicted this morning in Bradley County on one count of official misconduct, one count of conspiracy to commit official misconduct and one count of conspiracy to commit aggravated perjury in his role as Bradley County's delinquent tax attorney.

Miller's secretary April Miles was also charged with one count of aggravated perjury, one count of conspiracy to commit official misconduct and one count of conspiracy to commit aggravated perjury.

The TBI opened the investigation at the request of the District Attorney in late January after there were allegations that Miller was overbilling the county as delinquent tax attorney.

County commissioners removed Miller from that position last year after a no-confidence vote. When Miller was removed from office, he was ordered to turn over title search records. He did not have the records that showed he performed the required title searches even though he received payment for these searches. Miller challenged the action but a judge upheld the commission's decision in January.

TBI executed a search warrant his offices later that month.

Both Miller and Miles were booked into the Bradley County Jail this afternoon, each on a $10,000 bond.

Miller's name was also involved in the 2005 Tennessee Waltz bribery investigation. He was not charged at the time because Miller processed the monies he received from the FBI dummy company as legitimate campaign donations.
