Wellness and disease management company Healthways has signed a deal to provide its SilverSneakers Fitness Program to Physicians Health Choice plan members in Texas, Florida, New Mexico and Arkansas starting in 2010.
SilverSneakers is an award-winning fitness program for Medicare-eligible seniors. Healthways acquired SilverSneakers through its $450 million purchase of Axia Health Management in 2006.
Physicians Health Choice, based in San Antonio, provides Medicare Advantage health plans to more than 19,000 people throughout the South and Southwest.
Shares of Healthways (Ticker: HWAY) were down about 1 percent Wednesday. Year to date, they're up about 50 percent.
