Longtime legislative lobbyists Leslie Hafner and Tausha Carmack Alexander have teamed up to form their own lobbying and government relations firm, known as HafnerAlexander.

Hafner is a 15-year veteran of the Legislative Plaza and Tennessee politics. Most recently, she served as the director of government advocacy for the law firm of Bass Berry & Sims, where her duties included counseling clients on legislative strategies, monitoring legislation and lobbying members of the legislature and executive branch.

Before joining Bass, Hafner coordinated the governmental affairs of six states for Nashville-based Corrections Corp. of America and was a member of former Tennessee Gov. Don Sundquist’s staff, serving in both the press office and his legislative office.

Alexander has spent the majority of her career in trade association representation. Most recently, she was vice president and deputy general counsel for the Tennessee Bankers Association. She was promoted to that position in 2007 from associate counsel, a post she had held since 2002.

Prior to joining the TBA, Alexander practiced law in Kingsport, workong on general civil litigation, insurance defense and civil rights defense cases.

After her first year on the Hill, she was recognized by Business Tennessee as one of the state’s “Next Wave of Influential Lobbyists.” She was also recognized by the magazine in 2005 on its “30 Under Thirty” list of up-and-comers.

Currently, Alexander serves as a board member for the Tennessee Lobbyist Association.

Reached by NashvillePost.com, Hafner said she and Alexander bring diverse experiences and a record diversity of experience and a track record of successfully collaborating on a number of issues before lawmakers.

“We realized early on that we work extremely well together and share the same work ethic and business style,” she said. “Starting HafnerAlexander was a natural next step.”
