Maynard wants answers on General Hospital

Council member seeks Thursday forum with Riebeling

At-large Councilman Jerry Maynard sent a letter to Mayor Karl Dean today requesting that he make Metro Finance Director Rich Riebeling available to answer a series of hard-hitting questions at Thursday’s mid-year budget review for the Hospital Authority.

Maynard’s letter – available at this link – comes in response to a letter from Dean sent to the Hospital Authority last week. In it, Maynard demands specific measures that could help Metro General cut costs or increase revenues. Dean last week stated that Metro could not extend itself any more for the Hospital Authority, which receives a $47 million subsidy from the city.

Dean has charged Riebeling with looking at options to change the way Metro provides Nashville’s indigent and uninsured with health care.

Maynard pushed a plan late last year to give Metro employees breaks on insurance deductibles and co-pay payments when they use the hospital.
