Wealth manager Diversified Trust Co. has hired Carol Womack away from the treasurer's office at Vanderbilt University, where she was responsible for the private equity and venture capital investments that make up 15 percent of the university's endowment.
Womack has spent 23 years at Vanderbilt and has helped invest the endowment since 1998. She worked under Vice Chancellor of Investments Bill Spitz until he retired in 2007. Spitz co-founded Diversified Trust, which now has some $3 billion of client assets under management, and he sits on the firm's board.
In the time Womack and Spitz put in at V.U., the university's endowment grew to $3.49 billion. Since Spitz announced his departure, at least two other endowment portfolio managers have also departed — Henry Delicata (real estate) and Greg Dyra (public equity, fixed income and hedge funds). Matthew Wright took over from Spitz about a year ago.
Womack has a bachelor's degree from Middle Tennessee State University and an MBA from Vanderbilt's Owen School. She plans to take a little time off in the autumn and will join DTC in the new year.
