The Department of Justice filed suit Monday in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee alleging Knoxville-based Murphy Development failed to provide accessible features for persons with disabilities at seven local apartment complexes.
Among the developments alleging violating the law is Swiss Ridge Apartments, located at 455 Swiss Ave. in south Nashville. The other developments are Meadowcreek Apartments (Goodlettsville), Miller Town Apartments (Clarksville), 17th Street Apartments (Springfield), Forest View Apartments (Mt. Juliet) and Stonebridge (Columbia).
The complaint alleges the apartment complexes violated the Fair Housing Act by not providing disabled residents with proper sidewalk paths, among other violations.
The suit seeks monetary damages for disabled residents affected by the alleged housing act violation in addition to a civil penalty against Murphy Development.
