Metro Information Technology Services Director Sandy Cole is stepping down from her post at the end of the week, NashvillePost.com has learned.

Cole’s resignation letter, dated Aug. 5, said she was resigning for family reasons.

“With very mixed emotions, I am resigning my position with Metro due to family priorities and other personal interests,” Cole’s letter read. “I will assist in any way to assure a smooth transition both before and after my departure.”

Rumors surrounding Cole’s pending departure first surfaced in July, but both Cole and Mayor Karl Dean’s office said at the time they were not true. Metro's IT chief reports directly to the mayor.

"Coincidentally, I had not made that decision yet," Cole said today of the July rumors. "We had a family emergency in late July and then, in early August, we said we have to reset."

Cole has been with Metro ITS for five years and its director for the last three.

“I thank Ms. Cole for her service to Metro and the IT department for the past several years, and I wish her well in her future endeavors,” Dean said in a statement.

The Metro ITS department was last in the news after the break-in at the Davidson County Election Commission last winter. Metro soon after contracted a private consultant to review its IT security and Dean issued an executive order requiring mandatory information security training for all city employees.
