The English Only charter amendment proposal has the necessary signatures to make it on the ballot this fall, according to Councilman Eric Crafton, who will deliver the signed petitions to the Metro Clerk’s office on Thursday.

The petition needed 10,103 signatures from registered voters in Davidson County to make the ballot. The signatures are still subject to approval by the county's Election Commission.

In a press release, Crafton said he and a group of English Only volunteers will deliver the signatures at noon Thursday. There will be a press conference preceding that delivery.

Mayor Karl Dean has blasted the English Only initiative as divisive and wrong for Nashville. Metro Council approved a memorializing resolution at its meeting last week with a 25-8 vote that encourages Davidson County residents to vote against the ballot proposal in November.
