07-18-2008 1:07 PM

Mosquitoes infected with the West Nile Virus have been discovered in Antioch near the intersection of Bell Road and Murfreesboro Road, the Metro Health Department said Friday.

The Health Department plans to increase its surveillance in the area, but there are no plans at this time to spray insecticide to contain the mosquitoes.

Mosquitoes with West Nile have been found in the same area the last several years around this time of the summer, department spokesman Brian Todd said. Residents should take extra precaution, including limiting their time outside and wearing proper insect repellent.

West Nile Virus has proven to make those infected violently ill and in some cases has led to death.
