Jury convicts Ford

Tapes prove damning to former state senator who now faces up to 20 years in prison

After hours of deliberation and hearing for the second time a taped conversation between John Ford and an undercover FBI agent, a federal jury this morning opted to convict the former state senator.

Ford was found guilty of receiving consulting fees totaling more than $850,000 from two TennCare dental contractors, Doral Dental and OmniCare.

Ford will be sentenced on Sept. 29. He faces up to 20 years in prison, in addition to the five and half he is now serving following his prior conviction on federal bribery charges.
