Lipscomb University has named Candice McQueen dean of its newly streamlined College of Education.
A specialist in reading and curriculum development, McQueen has been at Lipscomb since 2001. She previously taught at Vanderbilt, the University of Texas and K-12 schools in Texas and Nashville. She earned her doctorate at Texas, her master's at Vanderbilt.
“I am proud that having looked across the country, one of our own was deemed uniquely qualified for this position,” said Lipscomb Provost Craig Bledsoe in a statement. "Lipscomb has always been known for the teachers we turn out, and I know Dr. McQueen will build on this reputation."
As part of McQueen's promotion, Lipscomb has moved four professional studies programs – communication, family and consumer sciences, social work and sociology, and kinesiology – into other colleges. The move will help it continue to grow its master's programs and add new degree programs, McQueen said.
