Greg Hinote, Nashville's Deputy Mayor and former chief of staff to Congressman Jim Cooper, was hospitalized earlier today following a bicycling accident.
Hinote, who is also an owner of the Belle Meade bicycle shop Gran Fondo Bicycles, was injured while riding this morning. According to NashvillePost.com sources, Hinote fell while riding on a trail at a Nashville park after hitting a patch of wet leaves. He was able to return to his car under his own power and then drive to Saint Thomas Hospital, where he later underwent surgery for a hip injury.
Contacted this evening by NashvillePost.com, Janel Lacy, spokeswoman for Mayor Karl Dean, would only confirm an accident had occured and that Hinote did go to the hospital.
