SunTrust adds commercial exec

President of Northwest Alabama market moving to town

SunTrust Banks Inc. is bringing back to Nashville the president of one of its Alabama divisions.

David Jones will start at his new post June 1 and will oversee 13 of SunTrust’s relationship managers in Middle Tennessee, which amounts to about a third of the bank’s total business group. He will report to Renee Drake, who oversees commercial banking for SunTrust, the region’s No. 3 bank by deposits.

Jones has been head of what is now SunTrust’s Tennessee Valley network in the Florence, Ala., area since 1994. Previously, he was a loan review manager with the bank in Nashville for eight years.

A graduate of the University of Tennessee, he is the current chairman of the Shoals Chamber of Commerce, which has more than 1,000 members.

Separately, SunTrust has also hired Paul Bond to be a part of its Williamson County commercial banking team. Bond, who ran his own business before joining SunTrust three years ago, has until now worked in the bank’s real estate group.

SunTrust is Williamson’s sixth-largest bank by deposit market share, with about 8 percent of that market.
