Senator Mike Williams (I-Maynardville) confirmed to Nashville Post.com this morning that he will be filing for re-election. However, that does not mean he will definitely be a candidate for re-election to the state legislature.

State law allows for candidates to file and have one week to decide after filing whether to remain on the ballot or not. Williams confirms he is filling but has not confirmed he is running.

By filing today, Williams has essentially bought himself a week to decide on his future.

For the past several years, Williams has feuded with the leadership of the Senate GOP caucus and has often butted heads with current Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey (R-Blountville). The feuding led to Williams leaving the GOP caucus and becoming an independent last year.

Williams had always been a strong supporter and reliable ally of former Democratic Lt. Gov. John Wilder, who was unseated by Ramsey last year.
