HealthStream has turned to its own board room to find the successor to interim and former CFO Arthur Newman.

The company has picked Gerry Hayden, a HealthStream director since 2006 and a former CFO of MedAvant Healthcare Solutions, another healthcare IT venture. He also has held the top financial spot at Private Business (now Goldleaf Financial Solutions), Covation and WebMD unit Envoy.

Hayden, who already has stepped down from HealthStream's board, will take over next month from Newman, who last summer moved back into the CFO role he held from 2000 to 2006 after Susan Brownie resigned to move to Cogent Healthcare.

Also starting next month at HealthStream (Ticker: HSTM) will be Chief Technology Officer Jeff Doster. A 20-year veteran of IT, Doster has, among other things, been chief technology officer at Shop at Home Network.

"The addition of Gerry and Jeff significantly deepens our executive team," said CEO Bobby Frist. "Gerry brings a wealth of experience in finance, mergers and acquisitions, and accountingparticularly from healthcare technology companies... Jeff brings a rich and varied technology background as well as executive-level experience working with high-growth companies."

HealthStream this afternoon also announced that it earned $66,000 on revenue of $11.4 million in the first quarter. Those numbers are up from $45,000 and $8.2 million, respectively, a year ago. Frist said he is maintaining his full-year earnings guidance at between $2.7 million and $3.4 million.

Shares of the company closed Tuesday trading at $2.71, up more than 3 percent on the day. They're down about 22 percent year to date.
