Former Tennessee Democratic Party chairman Bob Tuke has unveiled the first "commercial" of his campaign – or for that matter, of anyone running for the U.S. Senate this year.
The Nashville attorney is using the increasingly common tactic of airing a campaign commercial via YouTube instead of buying time on television. The move saves a significant amount of money although it will have far less impact due to fewer voters actually seeing the ad. However, it is early for U.S. Senate candidates to be buying TV time.
In his "YouTuke" ad, Tuke says he wants to "take the hill" and heavily draws on the story of World War I Congressional Medal of Honor winner Sgt. Alvin York for his inspiration in his uphill challenge against incumbent Sen. Lamar Alexander.
York was a native of Pall Mall, Tenn., whose exploits were immortalized on film by Gary Cooper in 1941.

The other candidates for the August Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate are former Knox County Clerk Mike Padgett, activist Chris Lugo and former Nashville mayoral candidate Kenneth Eaton.
