03-28-2008 3:07 PM — The Davidson County Election Commission has completely restored the voting rights of Dr. William H. Kraus, City Manager of Oak Hill, according to a release sent out on behalf of Kraus to Nashville media.
The release quotes Davidson County Elections Supervisor as confirming Kraus has had his voting rights restored.
"It's fair to say all parties at the Election Commission are glad this matter has been resolved successfully in this way and that Dr. Kraus can now go about his normal affairs without the distraction of this matter," Barrett said. "His voting rights have been restored and no further action is warranted."
Dr. Kraus was removed from the voter rolls in Davidson County in December for not disclosing a felony conviction in a real estate deal in California in 1985 when registering to vote in Tennessee in 2003.
He said he left the question blank because the conviction did not affect his voting privileges, but the Davidson County Election Commission and the state election commission ruled that he should have informed them and was removed from the election rolls.
Concerning the restoration of his voting rights, Dr. Kraus said he is "most delighted this four-month ordeal is now behind us and we will continue proceed full speed ahead working on issues that are in the best interest of Oak Hill." He added that he is looking forward to being able to cast a vote in the next election, noting that the February 5 primary was the first election since he became eligible to vote in 1958 in which he has not voted.
Kraus also got a vote of confidence from his current boss in the City of Oak Hill. "Dr. Kraus has done an outstanding job for Oak Hill for the past five years and we look forward to his continuing to be an integral part of our team," Oak Hill Mayor Tommy Alsup II said.
