It looks like the Senate won't be the Senate much longer. NashvillePost.com has learned from several sources that former Lt. Gov. and current West Tennessee State Senator John Wilder will announce that he will not seek re-election to the legislature next year. Wilder had previously stated that he would be running.
While predicting what moves Wilder will make is and has always been a tricky task, several sources have confirmed to NashvillePost.com that an announcement from the long-serving politician will come this week, possibly as early as today on the Senate floor.
Wilder will be honored on the floor of the Senate today with a resolution by colleagues that will dedicate the 2007-2008 Tennessee Blue Book to him. The Tennessee Blue Book is an encyclopedia of state government published by the Secretary of State.
First elected to office in 1958 to the Board of Supervisors of the Fayette County Soil Conservation District, Wilder soon after was elected to the state senate and is now serving his 44th year in the legislative body. He was elected Lieutenant Governor for 18 consectutive terms from 1971 to 2007.
