Eleven attorneys have filed the paperwork to be considered for the vacancy on the Davidson County Chancery Court that was created when Judge Richard Dinkins was elevated by Gov. Phil Bredesen to the Tennessee Court of Appeals.
There is still another vacancy on the bench in Nashville; the recent retirement of Judge Walter Kurtz opened up a Circuit Court slot. Applications for that position are due at the Administrative Office of the Courts by 4:30 p.m. tomorrow.
With both selections, the applicants will be interviewed by the Tennessee Judicial Selection Commission and then whittled down to three names submitted to Bredesen, who will then appoint one person from that slate or reject the entire list. If he were to reject the slate, the commission would then give him three new names from which he would have to pick one from the list.
