Beth Fortune, interim vice chancellor for public affairs at Vanderbilt University, will be named to the position permanently on Wednesday, according to NashvillePost.com sources.
Fortune has been a member of Vanderbilt's senior leadership for more than nine years, first as the university's associate vice chancellor for public affairs and most recently as interim vice chancellor for public affairs. She also served as press secretary to former Gov. Don Sundquist.
Among the duties overseen by her department are the university's news and communications functions, which includes the Vanderbilt News Service, Creative Services, Science and Research Communications and The Vanderbilt View monthly publication.
Fortune had served in the interim role as vice chancellor for public affairs since June 1 of this year, following the departure of her predecessor, Michael Schoenfeld, for a position at Duke University.
Earlier today, Vanderbilt officials said they have hired Susie Stalcup from Columbia University Medical Center to be their vice chancellor for development and alumni relations.
