University also names longtime instructor faculty fellow

11-21-2008 6:57 AM — Lipscomb University has promoted Scott McDowell to vice president for student development. Previously, he was associate provost for student development and dean of campus life.

McDowell, who has been on Lipscomb's faculty for a decade, recently received his doctorate of education in higher education leadership from Azusa Pacific University. As associate provost for student development, McDowell helped, among other things, boost the percentage of students living on campus from 49 percent to 63 percent.

Lipscomb officials also said Linda Peek-Schacht has joined them as professor in the departments of communication and history, politics and philosophy. Peek-Schacht previously served as a senior fellow at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and interim chair of the department of organizational and political communication at Emerson College in Boston.

On the corporate side, Peek-Schacht held senior communication posts at USA Today, the U.S. Senate Democratic Policy Committee and Coca-Cola Co.

And lastly, John York has been promoted to Presidential Faculty Fellow. York, a professor at Lipscomb since 1994, will continue to teach in the Bible and ministry department and will represent the faculty as a member of president L. Randolph Lowry’s staff as well as serve on the school's Senior Leadership Team.
