Dollar General has hired Todd Vasos to be division president and chief merchandising officer, filling the latter spot almost eight months after Beryl Buley retired from the retailer.

The 47-year-old Vasos comes to Goodlettsville-based Dollar General from Longs Drugs, the California pharmacy chain recently acquired by CVS Caremark. There, he had been COO since March after having been chief merchandise officer for seven years. He will start in his new position Dec. 1 and report to CEO Rick Dreiling.

Dollar General runs about 8,300 stores around the country. During its most recent quarter, it reported a $27.7 million profit on sales of $2.6 billion.
