Vanderbilt, sticking with its recent pattern of promoting from within, announced today that Jeffrey Balser has been tapped to takeover as Dean of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
Balser, previously associate vice chancellor for research at VUMC, has served in the role on an interim basis since July, when predecessor Steven Gabbe left to rejoin former Vandy Chancellor Gordon Gee at Ohio State University, where he now serves as senior vice president for health sciences and CEO at Ohio State University Medical Center.
Balser joined VUMC in 1998 and has also served as the James Tayloe Gwathmey Professor of Anesthesiology and Pharmacology.
