Beth Alexander, editor of Nfocus, is leaving the magazine to head up the community and investor relations efforts of CapStar Bank, which is being organized by local finance veterans.

Alexander will return to banking Feb. 1, the day after Nfocus’ 15th anniversary celebration and nine years after leaving the community development division of Bank of America for the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville. While still in the latter role, she joined Nfocus as managing editor in mid-2001 and became the publication’s full-time editor in January 2002.

CapStar, which expects to open its doors on Fourth Avenue North this quarter, last month announced it had raised $88 million. The venture is being led by Claire Tucker, former market president for FirstBank. Its backers include local heavyweights Denny Bottorff, Greg Daily, Julie Frist and Jay Turner.

In a voice mail, Tucker said Alexander will, in addition to her community outreach work, also have a private banking role. While her exact title is still undecided, Alexander said she’s “looking forward to working with a brand new, highly skilled team” at CapStar.
