Terry McAuliffe, national campaign chairman for the Hillary Clinton for President campaign, told Tennessee media today that the Democratic primary will be over on February 5 when 22 states hold their primary, including Tennessee, but tomorrow is the beginning of a month long marathon with the Iowa caucuses.

Voters will caucus in Iowa and McAuliffe said that "The Hillary Clinton campaign is in a strong position, we are running first or second in most polls but they don't matter anymore, the real poll is tomorrow." He added that the campaign has given shovels out to all of their campaign offices and offering baby sitter services for Iowans going to the caucuses.

McAuliffe then turned his focus to Tennessee and was joined on the call by national political and field director Guy Cecil and former Tennessee Democratic Party chairman Randy Button.

All emphasized the importance of Tennessee in the national campaign, with Button and Cecil pointing out that former Governor Ned McWherter and State Senator Thelma Harper are on board with them. Cecil added that Clinton would be barnstorming through the state after the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary. He did not indicate how many staffers would be on the ground here and the resources that would put into the state.

Cecil said that Clinton would be good for business, particularly small businesses, because she has a "really good health care plan" and that Tennesseans will be hearing more about it in the coming month. He added that revisions to NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) would be in order.
