Tennessee State University will have a new dean come January, a person you might already know.

Starting in January Bill Purcell, Nashville's soon to be former mayor, will become dean of the newly created School of Public Service and Urban Affairs at Tennessee State University, according to NashvillePost.com sources. Sources say that the school will be located on the Avon Williams campus in downtown Nashville.

Purcell is no stranger to academia. This fall he will be teaching classes in Massachusetts at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. Prior to his election as mayor, he led Vanderbilt University's Institute for Public Policy Studies.

Purcell will leave the mayor's office this coming Friday upon the swearing in of Mayor-elect Karl Dean.

Officials from Purcell's office declined to comment on this story. Officials from TSU could not be reached at the time of publication.
