09-10-2007 4:05 PM — Metro property records recorded today reveal that Rob and Emily Butts are the proud new owners of the historic West Meade Mansion.
Rob Butts is co-founder of Southpoint Capital Advisors, a New York-based hedge fund. The fund has more than $1 billion in assets under management, according to his bio with Adherex Technologies, a North Carolina-based biotechnology company researching cancer treatments. Southpoint has a substantial stake in the company and Butts sits on the board.
The bio says Butts graduated from Amherst College with a triple major in mathematics, physics and chemistry. His first job was as a financial analyst with Merrill Lynch's mergers and acquisitions group.
Previously, he worked with Greenlight Capital, another hedge fund. Butts left there in 2004 with Josh Clark to start Southpoint, according to an item in Alternative Investment News three years ago. The brief story indicated at the time that Butts and Clark intended to invest in mostly U.S. equities and dabble in distressed debt.
An August filing with the SEC shows Southpoint had investments in some 32 companies, ranging from CBS Corp. to development stage biotech companies to a couple of international companies. Last Thursday, however, Southpoint sold all of its 1.9 million shares in Houston-based electrical general contracting firm Integrated Electrical Services for $22 a share.
