The Nashville law firm of Boult, Cummings, Conners, and Berry is in discussions to merge with the Birmingham, Ala.-based law firm of Bradley, Arant, Rose and White, according to NashvillePost.com sources.

The combined firm would consist of over 350 attorneys and have offices here, Birmingham, Huntsville, and Montgomery, Ala., Jackson, Miss., Charlotte, N.C., and Washington, D.C..

According to NashvillePost.com sources, discussions between the two firms have been progressing steadily over the last few weeks, but a final decision as to whether the law firms will join forces likely will take a few more weeks.

This would not be the first combination of Birmingham and Nashville attorneys in recent years.

In 2003, Baker Donelson, a firm whose chairman is based in Memphis but which has a large office here, absorbed 65-attorney Berkowitz, Lefkovits, Isom & Kushner of Birmingham. Then, a year ago, six attorneys with the Nashville office of Greenebaum, Doll & McDonald left to join the local office of Birmingham based Burr & Forman.

Boult, Cummings was founded in 1910 and is led by managing partner Robert E. Wood. The firm, while not the largest in Nashville, is highly regarded for its practices in such areas as health care, commercial real estate, litigation, regulatory and utility issues, finance, and mergers and acquisitions.

When called about the potential merger, representatives of the firm indicated that the firm is constantly researching business and growth opportunities in keeping with its strategic objectives and indicated that details of conversations regarding growth opportunities are confidential in nature.
