Clement over million-dollar mark in fundraising; Dozier at half-mil

Councilman at-large Buck Dozier's mayoral campaign team contacted NashvillePost.com with its latest fundraising figures.

To date, the Dozier campaign says it has raised approximately $501,000, but tomorrow will file a figure of $489,665 raised as of June 30. The cash on hand column will show $115,915 in the report, but according to the campaign, that number has grown to $123,000 since the reporting period ended.

Dozier campaign officials say that the last quarter was one of their best, raising a total of $115,915, with no loans or contributions made by the candidate.

With Nashville's mayoral election less than a month away, candidates are trying to make an already hot July even hotter. Former Congressman Bob Clement is the first to turn up the heat by releasing his latest fundraising numbers, which show that he is likely to continue to have the largest war-chest among the contenders.

Candidates have until tomorrow to file their latest campaign finance disclosure forms, covering the fundraising period from April 1 through June 30. Clement is first out of the gate and once again displays the fundraising prowess he has shown since early in the contest.

According to the campaign, Clement raised $489,617.36 this reporting period bringing his overall fundraising total to more than $1.25 million. The campaign's report will show that the campaign has more than $816,000 cash on hand.

When contacted by NashvillePost.com, Clement campaign spokesman Ben Hall said that none of the funds raised came from a personal contribution by Clement and that approximately $135,000 of the total amount has been raised specifically for the inevitable run-off.

Candidates will have one more report to file before the election, on July 26. The election is August 2nd.
