Gwen Kinsey has been named the new general manager of WKRN News 2, Nashville's ABC affiliate. Kinsey replaces Mike Sechrist, who announced his departure earlier this week.
Kinsey was named GM of Knoxville's WATE News 6 earlier this year by parent company Young Broadcasting and will apparently serve as GM of both the Nashville and Knoxville stations. Interestingly, when Kinsey signed on with WATE in March she was already serving as GM for a station in Sioux Falls, S.D. and kept that job as well. There is no word on whether she will continue to manage all three stations.
What many Nashville media watchers will be waiting for is to see what changes Kinsey will bring to WKRN.
Under Sechrist, WKRN launched the popular "Nashville is Talking" and "Volunteer Voter" blogs and began employing a tactic called "video journalism." In fact, Sechrist's new gig will be to train other stations how to use "vj's" to gather more news faster.
