A Jackson, Miss., businessman has paid just under $4 million for a Tuscan-inspired house on Tyne Boulevard in Forest Hills.

Charles L. Irby, who heads up Irby Investments in Jackson, bought the house from Kenneth Sears and his wife Cheryl, both anesthesiologists in Franklin. He paid the asking price of $3.99 million. Rick French and Sam Coleman, agents with French Christianson Patterson & Associates, had the listing. Mike Jones of Jones Properties in Franklin represented Irby.

The house had been on the market for more than 2 years, which isn't an uncommon fate for custom-built houses carrying multi-million price tags, according to residential brokers. Local architect and landscape designer Stephen Wells designed the house, which was built six years ago. The 5,100-square-foot stone farmhouse-styled house, built around a lap pool, has three bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms.

Irby is a son of the founder of Irby Construction, a power-line construction company in Jackson, and Stuart C. Irby Co., an electrical products distributor that has locations in Nashville. He was chairman and a principal shareholder in the latter company at the time it was sold in 2005 to Sonepar USA, a subsidiary of Paris-based Sonepar Group.

Republican fundraising wizard Ted Welch should be pleased with Irby's arrival in Nashville. Irby has a long track record of political contributions to the Republican Party and its candidates.
