Briefly: Well known VC names involved with new gift card company

10-11-2007 3:17 PM — FaceCard Inc., a local startup company with a number of notable names involved, has just closed an early-stage funding round.

According to information published on PriceWaterhouseCoopers, the gift-card company, which is aimed at teenagers and young adults, has received just over $1 million in early-stage financing from well-known local venture firm Claritas Capital along with another “undisclosed” firm.

Reaching consumers through their use of social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace, FaceCard.com allows its customers to consolidate leftover balances from used gift cards onto a single card.

The company’s board includes CEO Ed Braswell, as well as Claritas Managing Parter John Chadwick, Voyent Partners co-founder Jim Kever, and Mark McDonald of commercial real-estate developer Newton Oldacre McDonald.
