District Attorney General Torry Johnson will not be a candidate for Mayor of Nashville next year. Johnson has been calling supporters today informing them of his decision and has just released a statement to the media.

In his announcement, Johnson said that while the opportunity to have a larger role in shaping the future of the city was tempting, he felt that the demands of a campaign would be overwhelming and that he needed to focus on his current obligations.

Johnson had seemed to be the candidate of choice for Nashville's business, developer, and chamber community.

The race to replace out going Mayor Bill Purcell is currently set between former U.S. Congressman Bob Clement, Metro Councilman-At-Large Buck Dozier, and Vice Mayor Howard Gentry.
