Former State Sen. Larry Trail (D-Murfreesboro) passed away last night at St. Thomas Hospital. Trail, who was admitted to the hosptal late last week for what was determined to be a liver ailment, was 53.
Recently elected to serve as a Circuit Court Judge in Rutherford County, Trail served one term as a state senator before losing his seat to State Sen. Jim Tracy (R-Murfreesboro) two years ago.
Trail's death now leaves a vacancy on the bench in Rutherford County. Since Trail had not been sworn in yet, there is some uncertainty as to how the seat will be filled.
Sue Allison, spokesperson for the Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts, said that the matter was being researched as to how to proceed.
Trail is survived by his wife Sandra, with whom he practiced law before entering the Senate, and children Matthew and Elizabeth.
