State Representatives Steve Godsey (R-Blountville), Henri Brooks (D-Memphis), and Sherry Jones (D-Nashville) were on the ballot yesterday and hoping to win primary battles for county offices. Two of the three advanced.
Godsey won the Republican primary in the race to become the next Sullivan County Mayor. He will face Democrat Larry Hall in the August General Election. Sullivan County is considered a bedrock Republican county and most political watchers would be surprised if Godsey had any trouble winning the General Election.
In Memphis, Henri Brooks will face Republican Novella Arnold for a seat on the Shelby County Commission. Brooks created a stir in the state legislature a few years ago when she refused to stand for the pledge of allegience. She is expected to win the County Commission seat in August.
Sherry Jones lost her bid to unseat Davidson County Criminal Court Clerk David Torrence. This race saw a bit of controversy when NashvillePost.com recieved audio tapes from an unkown source of Torrence staffers threatening employees who did not assist in his re-election efforts. Torrence quickly suspended the offending staff members, an action that seemed to quell the controversy among voters.
