Listed below are the candidates who completed the qualification process in Davidson County, according to the Davidson County Election Commission.
As soon as the Division of Elections for the state completes the certification process for statewide candidates and state House and state Senate candidates, NashvillePost.com will post those results.
Of interest in the races listed below:
* The race for House District 54 will be closely watched -- incumbent state Rep. Edith Taylor Langster (D) faces a number of challengers, but most notably Metro Councilwoman Brenda Gilmore.
* State Rep. Sherry Jones (D) had previously qualified for criminal court clerk, but appears to be attempting to hedge her bets because she has qualified for re-election as well. She is not alone in attempting to run for multiple offices. Michael Kerstetter, who just this week resigned from the Metro Council, has filed to run against her and has also qualified to run for the Davidson County School Board.
* As reported previously, state Sen. Thelma Harper faces Jesse Tucker, husband of Metro Councilwoman Carolyn Baldwin Tucker in what is expected to be a contentious primary due to the animosity of the two camps.
* The race to fill the seat of state Sen. Jim Bryson has drawn eight candidates, but former Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman Randy Button was not among them. Seven Republicans and one Democrat have qualified for the seat.
* And finally, state Sen. Douglas Henry (D) has drawn a primary opponent and will face a challenge in the November general election. Henry has served in the senate for more than three decades and has traditionally enjoyed the support of both Democrats and Republicans.
