Corker to buy $1 million in ads

03-31-2006 10:17 AM — The Bob Corker for U.S. Senate campaign is putting serious money on the line in its race to succeed Bill Frist.

Beginning May 4, the Corker campaign will start airing campaign commercials in all major television markets in Tennessee. The cost of the ad buys comes to approximately $1 million.

Corker, former mayor of Chattanooga, is facing former Congressman Ed Bryant and Van Hilleary in the August Republican primary. The winner of that race will face the Democratic primary winner in November, Congressman Harold Ford Jr. or state Sen. Rosalind Kurita. Ford is the heavy favorite to win the Democratic primary.

Ben Mitchell, Corker’s campaign manager, confirmed the ad campaign saying that, “We will be demonstrating Bob Corker’s conservative record.”

While Harold Ford Jr. has had a few television ads up on the air, this is the first major buy from any of the U.S. Senate candidates.

As of now, none of the other candidates have purchased significant television time.
