Council member leaves law firm to work for Briley

Downtown rep and former Tennessee Democratic Party chairman among those tapped for mayoral campaign

The David Briley for Mayor campaign is announcing this morning a number of familar names that will play key roles in Briley's efforts to succeed outgoing Mayor Bill Purcell next year. Briley has served two terms in the Metro Council as an at-large member.

Metro Council member Mike Jameson, an attorney, will serve as chairman of the Briley for Mayor campaign, taking a leave of absence from his law firm, North Pursell Ramos & Jameson. Currently, Jameson represents the city's 6th council district, which includes much of downtown and East Nashville.

The father and son team of Will Cheek Jr. and Will Cheek III will serve as policy and strategy co-chairs. Will Cheek Jr. is a member of the Democratic National Committee and former chair of the Tennessee Democratic Party. Will Cheek III is an attorney at the firm of Bone McAllester Norton.

The younger Cheek's colleague Stephen Zralek, a partner at Bone McAllester Norton, will serve as the campaign's treasurer.

Jerry Martin, an attorney with the law firm of Barrett, Johnston & Parsley, will serve as the campaign's finance chairman. Martin previously served as Congressman Jim Cooper's finance director in 2002.

Political consultant Krissa Barclay, who is immediate past president of the Davidson County Democratic Party, will serve as campaign coordinator for the Briley for Mayor campaign.

As previously reported by NashvillePost.com, veteran pollster Fred Yang of Garin-Hart-Yang in Washington, D.C., and David Dixon of Dixon/Davis Media Group, also based in D.C. will work for the campaign as well.
