Sheila Sawyer has joined Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis LLP as a partner and now practices in the firm's trial and appellate litigation practice, where she focuses on white-collar criminal defense and civil ligitation.
She was previously a partner at Foley Hoag LLP, Boston, where she was a member of that firm's crimes and government investigations practice. Earlier, Sawyer spent nine years as assistant U.S. attorney in the District of Massachusetts, as well as a stint with Davis Polk & Wardell in New York City, where she focused on securities fraud.
Sawyer has defended companies and individuals in federal healthcare fraud investigations, and has represented individuals in insider-trading and market-timing investigations conducted by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Office of the U.S. Attorney. Since joining Waller in mid-September, she has devoted much of her time to representing PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) in an accounting-fraud case pending in Georgia.
Dallas-reared Sawyer earned her J.D. in 1988 from Fordham University School of Law, and earned her bachelor's in history in 1985 from Cornell University.
