Label lawyer crosses over to Music Row firm

Joe Brazil today joins the Music Row office of Adams and Reese LLP as special counsel, after eight years as in-house counsel for EMI Music Christian Music Group and EMI's Capitol Records Nashville, two of the dozen labels Brazil has served during the past 13 years.

Brazil, 39, will work within the firm's entertainment and new media, and intellectual property and technology practice teams, according to Linda Ezell Howard, who is partner in charge for Music Row.

Prior to joining EMI, Brazil served as in-house counsel for Franklin-based Provident Music Group and, earlier, Star Song Communications Group. He earned his law degree at Emory University School of Law in 1993, and his undergraduate diploma at Vanderbilt University in 1989.

Brazil is a licensed patent attorney, as well as a veteran of standard recording, publishing and other music- and entertainment-related agreements and transactions. Emerging online-distribution and related licensing issues will also be in Brazil's portfolio.
