07-09-2003 12:00 AM — Metro’s legal department is recommending that the city accept a $65,000 settlement from Aegis Laboratories, Inc. over a botched drug test performed on a Metro fire department employee.

The employee was fired in 1998 after a screening performed by Aegis tested positive for marijuana. The employee appealed the results of that test. An Administrative Law Judge later found that the test had been performed improperly and ordered Metro to reinstate the employee with back pay and benefits.

Aegis Laboratories has already agreed to pay Metro Government for damages incurred from the negligent drug test.
