In an answer filed Tuesday in Circuit Court, Dr. Koulis admits to having had an ongoing sexual relationship with the ex-patient, Robyn Ann Williams, while she was under his care last year, but he denies that the relationship violated American Medical Association or Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners guidelines for "acceptable professional practice."
He also denies that he ever physically assaulted Ms. Williams as she alleges in her lawsuit filed in February. She says in her filing that she continued to visit Dr. Koulis in his office in the weeks after the alleged assaults.
Dr. Koulis, a Chicago native and former resident at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, admits having discussed with Ms. Williams a sexual relationship gone bad involving another former patient. He acknowledged becoming very upset by "the efforts of another patient and her boyfriend to blackmail and/or extort money from him."
That situation also resulted in a civil lawsuit filed the same day in February as the Williams complaint. Nashville attorney John Nolan and Atlanta attorney Daniel Ragland filed both of the women's complaints. Dr. Koulis has not yet responded to the other woman's lawsuit.
Dr. Koulis is represented by Dan Warlick and by Miller & Martin attorney Bob Trentham. Dr. Gold is represented in his asset-payment lawsuit by Garrett Asher of Parker, Lawrence, Cantrell & Dean.
