Three leave Farris Warfield for Bass Berry

01-20-2000 12:00 AM — Michael Dagley, Overton Thompson III and Tara Swafford left Farris Warfield and Kanaday to join the litigation team at Bass, Berry & Sims.

According to Dagley, the departure was amicable. "The people at Farris were great," Dagley said. "But Bass had the type of corporate clients that generate the securities and big corporate commercial cases that we really specialize in."

Dagley and Thompson have worked on a number of high-profile cases. They represented Western Sizzlin when it was sued by its former CEO Dave Wachtel. "That case was widely reported because everything about Wachtel is widely reported," Dagley said.

Dagley and Thompson currently represent both KPMG and Equitable in class action securities lawsuits.

The arrival of Dagley, Thompson and Swofford came at about the same time that eight lawyers left Bass, Berry to start a new firm called Walker Bryant & Tipps. Dagley said the two events were not related.

Phillip Morris and Columbia/HCA are two of the larger companies now represented by Bass, Berry's litigation team.
